The Luxury
of Slow Travel
These journeys are built on the principle that to truly understand India, you must move at a human pace.
We don’t rush between sites or follow a packed schedule. Instead, we travel in small, intimate groups of just six to eight, allowing us to move intentionally and stay as long as we like when a conversation or a craft becomes interesting.
I firmly believe that rest is as important as the journey itself. You need quiet moments to absorb the textures and stories of the day. Our days are designed for this, to watch the light change in a courtyard, to share chai with a maker and to leave space for the small, unexpected moments that a busy itinerary always misses.
With thirty years of experience guiding me, I have learned that the "unseen" connections only settle when you have the luxury of time.
Thirty Years
of Insight
My connection to India began in the 1980s as the founder of The Indian Garden Company, sourcing textiles, ceremonial tents, garden umbrellas and objects for the home directly from artisan communities across Rajasthan and Kerala.
That work gave me something no guidebook or tour can replicate: the ability to walk into a workshop and understand immediately what I’m looking at -the quality of the work, the integrity of the maker, the story behind the technique.
Over three decades, that work has shaped how I see and understand India’s craft traditions.
This is the perspective I bring to these journeys.
“Bernadette took us well and truly off the beaten track. We couldn’t have reached many of the places or had the experiences we did without the relationships she’s built over years in India. It felt like being welcomed in, not shown around.”
